MANILA, Philippines – Smart Communications Inc. recently partnered with Promote CDO Foundation and Cagayan de Oro City for the Kagay-an Festival 2009, held in honor of the city’s patron, St. Augustine.
“Our participation in the Kagay-an Festival is our way of giving thanks to our subscribers in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental. We also thank Mayor Constantino Jaraula and the festival organizers for giving us the opportunity to be part of this year’s celebrations,” said Ramon Isberto, Smart’s Public Affairs Group head.
Eileen San Juan, who chaired the Kagay-an Festival Committee, said, “We thank Smart for being a partner in making this year’s festival a success and for helping Cagayan de Oro promote tourism and investments.”
During the month-long celebration, Kagay-anons were treated to events such as the Kagay-an Dance Festival, Ms. Kagay-an Pageant, and the Golden Float Parade.
The festival ended meaningfully with Halad sa Lambagohan, where hundreds of candles were made to float in the Cagayan River in remembrance of the residents who perished in flash floods earlier this year.
To add to the festival revelry, Smart organized sales blitzes and offered phones at low prices.
Smart also mounted a concert by Sandwich, in cooperation with Wild Zee FM, where subscribers rocked out and brought home raffle prizes.
Smart employees in Cagayan de Oro also backed the city’s cleanup efforts by supporting the City Public Services Office.
Cagayan de Oro remains to be one of the fastest developing cities in the country, and a top adventure destination.
The regional hub for Northern Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro is also the jump-off point to other tourist destinations such as Camiguin and Bukidnon. It is also the capital of Misamis Oriental, and plays an integral part in the province’s growth.
