The Pintados are Taclobans early inhabitants known for the heavy tattoos on their bodies. They are said to hold colorful celebrations to mark victory in war and honor their deity for a bountiful harvest and other occasions.
The legacy of the Pintados is alive among Leyteños. The Pintados Festival is one big tourist come-on for both locals and foreigners. This year, representatives from the embassies of Laos, Vietnam, Germany and the United Kingdom are expected to join the celebration.
The Pintados themselves are the biggest crowd-drawer, particularly the dancers painted from head to toe. They will lead a parade that begins at the Balayuan Towers and proceeds across the city.
Globe Telecom is jumping into the fray via a fiesta-inspired campaign. Banners, flyers and posters take on the Pintados flavor rich, colorful and celebratory.
As a treat to Leyteños, the Globe Telecom Business Center is offering a special buy-one, take-one promo on the Nokia 3530. Each customer who subscribes to a G-Text Plan with a friend gets the Nokia 3530 for free, while his friend pays only P2,000 for the unit with his own G-Text Plan.
For a monthly service fee of only P500, G-Text covers 20 minutes of free voice calls and 500 free text messages.
Tacloban tourism office head Cora Alvero says that support from business groups, particularly Globe Telecom, is important in pushing for the festivals success.
"The sponsorship of some of the events by Globe Telecom helps us in our networking activities. With its support, we are also able to improve the events for the public," she says.
In Leyte, Globe Telecoms Pintados promo can be availed of until tomorrow at the Globe Business Center, 22 P. Burgos st., Tacloban City.
