RP joining ethnic music forum in Taipei

The Philippines has been invited to attend an international academic forum on ethnic music in the city of Taipei in Taiwan.

The seven-day forum is scheduled to start on Oct. 21 and will be hosted by the Center for Traditional Arts and the Taipei Cultural College.

The Ifugao tribe will be representing the Philippines and will also perform during the event. Also attending are the different tribes in Taiwan like the Bu-nong, Amei, Pai-Wan and Tai-Ya.

Ethnic tribes from China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, Albania and Greece are also expected to grace the event.

"This will be a good opportunity for the Ifugao tribe to showcase Philippine culture," said Isabel Golamco, director of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. "It will also be a good time to discover how similar Philippine culture and music is to Taiwanese or even Chinese culture."

The forum, whose theme is "The Study of Renaissance Music in a Traditional Society," and performances will be held in two venues – the Taipei Cultural College and Ilan Traditional Arts Center.

The delegates will undergo a series of seminars and workshops and will also perform on designated evenings.
