MANILA, Philippines - After hitting North America and Europe, Rihanna is taking her Diamond World Tour to only three Asian cities, and Manila is lucky to be one of them, along with Macau and Singapore.
The much-awaited concert is presented by Fibr and Smart, and it will take place on Sept. 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The gig is set to be a 100-minute thrill ride. Opening for the superstar is will be breakthrough electronic dance music DJ-producers, GTA, who are sure to get the crowd fist-pumping and booty-bouncing in no time.
Rihanna’s Diamond World Tour will feature multiple costume and set changes, video and flashing lights, backup dancers and of course, song performance of Rihanna’s top hits and current songs. But seeing Riri live is not only about watching an ultimate performer, a lady who can sing and dance her heart out. It’s about the fashion. We hear she will don several outfits designed by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Raf Simons, a Belgian fashion designer and creative director at Christian Dior, and Adam Selman, her personal costume designer. Any superstar worth their salt will make it worth your while visually and aurally.
The concert promises to be one of the year’s most memorable ones, as Rihanna’s current tour has taken the 11th spot in Pollstar’s list of the top 100 worldwide tours, as it has reportedly grossed $50.1 million. Rihanna also breaks more records by earning her 20th No. 1 song in the US Hot Dance Club chart, beating Janet Jackson who has 19. She is surely a must-watch.
Opening act
Opening act GTA, on the other hand, is also a must-watch. Formed by Miami natives Matt van Toth and Julio Mejia, GTA developed their loud sound with a hiphop slant and a tropical vibe in their bedroom studio. Their sound cannot be boxed into one genre, giving them a reputation for cutting-edge music with “Death to Genres†as their motto. They produce music for the adventurous and eclectic taste, experimenting with trap music, house, moombahton, funky electro, booty bass, salsa, big room and more, giving it a spin completely their own.
GTA performed alongside David Guetta and Haim in certain European cities for Rihanna’s Diamond World Tour and also worked with other big name artists-producers-DJs like Pharell Williams, Afrojack, Diplo, Laidback Luke and A-Trak.
