Check out the new Blanc Gallery
MANILA, Philippines - We like the progressive growth our art scene is taking these days, what with debut exhibits from young artists and new art groups sprouting around the metro. The gallery scene is also expanding, and the newest addition is Blanc Katipunan, the fourth of the Blanc family. The gallery was inaugurated last Wednesday with the opening exhibit, “Tones of Home,†an expansive collection of artworks from a staggering 45 artists, including Zean Cabangis, Dina Gadia, Mariano Ching, Bembol dela Cruz, Ronald Ventura, Louie Cordero and the dynastic Santos family (father Soler and children Luis and Carina). “Tones of Home†is a celebration of the artists the gallery has worked with in the past seven years, as they move the gallery in Katipunan and turn the three branches into backrooms and residencies. Like its predecessors, the new Blanc is an exercise in sleek minimalism, its white interiors reminiscent of a Comme des Garçons store. “Tones of Home†will be on display until June 15 at 145 Katipunan Avenue, St. Ignatius, Quezon City.
Attraction! Reaction!
Attraction! Reaction! spells out a chill Saturday evening, and if you’re for some downtime with good friends and good music, Route 196 is the place to go. Tonight, Mount Analogue, Peso Movement, Shoulder State, Tarsius, Ciudad, and Ang Bandang Shirley will play for They Live By Night, A!R!’s offering for June. Party starts at 9 p.m.
Bayang Barrios
Bayang Barrios is perhaps one of OPM’s best-kept secrets, her soothing and melodious voice untainted by commercial greed. Yesterday, she launched her new album “Malaya,†proving that she can still charm us with her haunting tunes. Her songs are easy listening, but what makes her music stand out is the ethnic melodies that accompany her voice. Barrios comes at a perfect time to show those bossa nova cover artists how it’s done. “Malaya†will feature 10 original songs and will be available soon.
Bloggers United
Bloggers have become celebrities in their own right, netting their own fanbases that can rival that of movie stars. Proof of this is Bloggers United, a collective of Filipino bloggers who gather to sell pre-loved or unique items. If last year’s effort is any indication, the fifth installment will be another hit, with throngs of fans literally swarming around their favorite bloggers. Some bloggers worth checking out are organizers Ana Gonzales and Aisa Ipac, photographer Bjorn Bedayo, David Guison, Divine Lee and Victor Basa, avant-garde stylist Gelo Arucan, Unisex owner JP Singson, shoe designer Karl Leuterio, Laureen Uy, Lissa Kahayon, OS Accessories co-designer Paul Jatayna, Camille Co, and Maggie Wilson. The event will happen today at the SMX Function Room 3, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
