Last Sunday night

MANILA, Philippines - Katy Perry’s The California Dreams Tour last Sunday was a huge success, even though the performance started two hours late due to security issues. Katy Cats were treated to a spectacle of candies, showgirls, giant cats and gingerbread men, much to the delight of the thousands of fans who flocked to see Katy perform what pundits call one of the best 50 tours in the world. One of the night’s highlights, apart from her performing a heartfelt rendition of The One That Got Away amid her divorce from Russell Brand, was her onstage smooch with ex-PBB housemate Ivan Dorschner. As part of the show, Katy asked the first guy to take his shirt off to join her on stage, resulting in Ivan getting a kiss on the cheek from the pop star and him returning the favor. While Ivan lucked out on that intimate one-on-one with Katy (the kiss made its way to the website of UK’s The Daily Mail), Supreme snatched this exclusive with Kathy Beth Terry’s alter-ego backstage! —Koji Arsua

SUPREME: After all the accolades you’ve received, like five #1 hits from a single album, MTV’s Artist of the Year, and the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year for Firework, while receiving the most nominations this year at the People’s Choice Awards, which award or career highlight is most meaningful for you and why?

Katy Perry fans were treated to a spectacle of candies, showgirls, giant cats and gingerbread men.

KATY PERRY: The most meaningful awards are always the ones that the fans vote for, but the highlight of 2011 has got to be the opportunity to meet so many people all over the world on my California Dreams Tour. The real success is seeing the people commit to me by coming to my shows and selling them all out.

S: If you could create three mash-ups with your six singles from “Teenage Dream,” which two songs would you pair and why?

KP: “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls,” “The One That Got Away” and “Last Friday Night,” and “E.T.” and “Firework.”

S: You’ve also created characters for yourself. Tell us something about Kathy Beth Terry from Last Friday Night.

KP: Kathy Beth Terry is a little bit of a nerd, but she’s sweet. And I think she’s gotten much more popular in school after being in my Last Friday Night video! She’s gotten a lot of friend requests and date requests. She’s hoping for a date request from Napoleon Dynamite or JTT.

S: You’re a performer, an actress, a songwriter, and a comedian. What other titles do you want to put next to your name?

KP: I’d like to add designer. I’d also like to add social activist.

S: There are many Katy Cats in the Philippines who want to be like you. What do you want to tell them?

Thousands of Katy Cats troops to the SM MOA Concert Grounds to see her perform songs from her best-selling “Teenage Dream” album.

KP: We can only be ourselves — we can’t be anyone else because that would be cheating our true destiny. In order to achieve your goals and your dreams, you have to be confident in your own skin and be happy with who you are. In the face of adversity, keep your chin up and trust your instincts and your heart’s motives.
