Best Of The Week: Of murder, Marian and MRT rides

WTF News of the Week: Casey Anthony is found ‘not guilty’

MANILA, Philippines - After three years of her case hanging in the balance, 25-year-old Casey Anthony, was found not guilty for suffocating her 2-year-old daughter Caylee with chloroform, dumping her body in the woods and failing to report her missing body for 31 days. Instead of being charged with first-degree murder, she was charged with false reporting by a jury in an Orlando courtroom last July 5. Saved by what lawmakers call the “uncertainty principle,” a niggling of reasonable doubt raised in the minds of the jury, making it impossible for them to disprove the innocence of a suspect. As it is, Casey stands to walk a free woman with possible book and movie deals lined up — some media outlets have gone as far as naming possible actresses to play her in a Casey Anthony biopic, including Kristin Steward, Emily Blunt and Ellen Page. To add irony to insult, Kim Kardashian took to Twitter and stated her disbelief at the news of Casey’s verdict, saying “What!!!!???!!!! Casey Anthony found not guilty!!!! I am speechless!!!” Right. That coming from the daughter of attorney, Robert Kardashian, who is best known for representing his BFF, O.J. Simpson, for his infamous murder trial in 1995.

Intense Fight of the Week:  Marian versus Heart, the nth version

We’ve been ignoring the catfight between the two Kapuso actresses the past few weeks, thinking all will be well after the issue dies down. But wait, looks like there’s no holding back now, with recent developments aggravating the situation. This week, Heart Evangelista’s Twitter account, @heart021485, posted a series of tweets against Marian Rivera, after it allegedly got hacked. Heart was able to make light of the situation by clarifying it wasn’t her who posted the tweets who called Marian bobita and Marianita bobo. Using boyfriend Daniel Matsunaga’s Twitter account, Heart finally broke her silence about the rift, promising she will reveal everything that happened when she gets back. The actress appealed to her fans to gather news articles about the said “airport incident” which is believed to have caused this issue, and also thanked them for behaving when Marian’s fans booed her scenes in their recent movie. She also revealed that she received a text message from a certain “her” who threatened the death of her showbiz career. The actress is currently vacationing in Brazil and will be back soon, so we might have to brace ourselves for a catfight longer than their recent movie’s promotion.

Commuter of the Week: Anne Curtis

She’s so amusing we’re gonna die. This week, fearing she might be late for the Kylie Minogue concert at the Araneta, Anne Curtis braved the urban jungle and commuted to the venue by riding the MRT! Posting real time updates on her Twitter account which has more than a million followers, Anne took the metro adventure with her assistant as her only company. They boarded one of the trains reserved for women, where surprised commuter fans took the chance to have their picture taken with their idol. Quoting her last tweet, she said, “Good thing hindi na ako nag headdress and showgirl outfit, di ako kakasya dito!” What a sight that would have been!

Sexiest Woman of the Week: Sam Pinto

It’s that time of the year again when the sexiest women in the land troop to one place and lure the men from all over the country. In this year’s goddess fest, former housemate Sam Pinto will be leading 99 other woman in the skin fest, topping this year’s list of the 100 Sexiest Women by FHM. Primetime superstar Marian Rivera, unable to maintain her early lead, finished second while last year’s winner Angel Locsin placed third. Rounding off the top five are sexy actress Cristine Reyes and our favorite survivor, Solenn Heussaff. Surely, with this new achievement under her belt, we’re sure more showbiz doors will open for Sam Pinto.

Ikaw na, Teh! Best Dressed of the Week: Vice Ganda

While Anne Curtis later changed from her commuter’s outfit to a sparkly number upon arriving in Araneta Coliseum, Vice Ganda arrived in full futuristic Aphrodite mode, complete with a chain headdress and silvery makeup. Styled by Bang Pineda, who had the dress made overnight by Kenneth Chua, Vice Ganda once again upped the kabogera ante, especially when a producer approached him after the show with a signed program from Kylie and informed him that she had chosen him as the night’s best dressed. “I was shocked and totally blown away because I wasn’t expecting it. There were a lot of people who were all dressed up for that event and when they told me that I was chosen by Kylie, I was just so shocked and super, super, super happy,” Vice Ganda told Team Supreme.

In fairnezz, Vice! Sige nga, pa-concert ka uli diyan!

Protective Son of the Week: Quark Henares

Hayden Kho Jr., yes, the former doctor, and Vicki Belo, the cosmetic doctor, have announced their engagement, though they have yet to pick a date for their wedding. The couple, who’s been through thick and thin (with a sex scandal on the side), revealed they got engaged in Las Vegas December of last year, where Hayden knelt down and gave Vicki a diamond ring. Now, guess who’s not going to be the best man? That’s Vicki’s only son Quark, who is very vocal about his feelings on the engagement. In a statement, he said he is not happy about the engagement, but is just letting it slide because he values his mother’s happiness. “I’ll still be keeping watch on Hayden though and if he hurts her again, I think I really will have to kill him,” he adds. We would make jokes alluding to Vicki Belo’s as-of-yet unnamed magnet-powered vagina tightening machine and how useful it would be during her wedding night, but... gross.

Diamond in the Rough of the Week: Maricel Soriano

Some time last week, Maricel Soriano, the Diamond Star, found herself in the rough when two of her housemaids sought the help of media personalities and known brave defenders of the universe, the Tulfo brothers. The two hapless maids claimed they were physically harmed by the veteran actress, who also held their salaries for months. Soriano was also accused of verbally abusing the complainants, though this was denied by her camp. The actress didn’t attend the barangay hearing for the case, claiming she couldn’t find her boxing gloves.
