Day in and day out, certain individuals make it their job — and passion — to help individuals and institutions maximize their potential through personal encouragement, business strategy, and relentless execution.
Anthony Pangilinan, chairman and “Chief Disturber” of BusinessWorks, and chief trainer of Inspire Leadership Consultancy, which pioneered the popular leadership programs of Dr. John Maxwell in the Philippines, I collaborated with me for this article to take a peek behind the source of motivation and passion of some of our country’s top business consultants and motivators.
These individuals help fuel the operation and growth of the Philippines’ top corporations and SMEs that churn out billions in revenue and influence millions of customers and partners in the process. Beyond these are countless educational institutions, churches and government offices —they also reach out as part of their advocacy for national development.
So, what keeps them ticking? Here’s what we found out:
Alex Castillo, former head, Del Monte Philippines, management consultant and speaker
I consider myself more of a teacher than a motivational speaker. Teaching is demonstrating principle through distilled experience in bite-sized slices. I teach to share what I know from experience — my successes and failures — so others can use them as short-cuts.
People don’t live long enough to read enough books or gain enough experience to teach themselves.
Miriam Quiambao, actress, former beauty queen, speaker
What keeps me inspired is a flourishing relationship with God in whom I have found my purpose. With that purpose in mind, I have set goals for every aspect of my life that makes me feel motivated to take action. I am so blessed to have married a very supportive husband who not only encourages me but also brings out the best in me.
Chot Reyes, Smart Gilas Head Coach, motivational speaker
Very simple — sharing my players’ stories. Next, is when people approach me or tweet to say they were moved, touched, inspired by my talk. Finally, I am motivated by the knowledge that I am doing what I was put in this life to do — add value to other people’s lives.
Alex Araneta, speaker and training company owner, Catalyst 360
The reason I love my job is because, in my own small way, I am able to help other people become better through my life examples. My ultimate satisfaction is when people tell me I played a part in making their lives better.
Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, speaker, actress, mompreneur
What motivates me to motivate others? It would be my excitement over the privilege of having the chance to help improve the lives of others by being allowed to speak to people’s lives. If I can make even a little sense to them, disturb them in a positive way so that it leads them to want to change for the better, then that makes all the difference in the world.
Chinkee Tan, author and TV host
Coming from a life full of hardship and financial challenges helps me relate to people who are experiencing it. My passion is helping people overcome their debt problems and be financially free. My philosophy in life comes from Zig Ziglar: “To just help enough people to get what they want and you will also get what you want in life.”
Mondo C. Castro, BusinessWorks chief disturber & Inspire Consultancy chief trainer
God’s grace motivates me to be better at what I do. Everything stems from that.
Tim Cone, San Miguel head coach, team building speaker
I’ve always thought of myself as more of a teacher than a coach. I’ve always felt that impacting other people’s lives in positive, uplifting ways is a great calling. I see the Maxwells and the Coveys and others and what they are doing worldwide, and even the way they have impacted myself, and I can’t help but want to emulate them. They are turning people’s lives around daily and giving them different perspectives. Who wouldn’t want to do that?
Bo Sanchez, author, speaker and community servant
I love my audience. They are my friends, my family. If I see them grow, expand, elevate, increase, transform — that is enough fuel for me to keep getting better as a communicator. Each day, I have that deep sense of joy (and humbling experience) that God is using me to bless another human being. What have I done to deserve this incredible opportunity each day? This is grace.
Butch Jimenez, PLDT senior vice president, leadership speaker
Underdogs that beat the odds and people who are able to sacrifice personal gain for others inspire me. Aside from that, simple acts of kindness also warm my heart. I believe if everyone in the world did simple acts of kindness every day, this world would be a sweeter place to live in.
Ardy S. Abello, Businessworks Inc. president and consultant
Faith and family are the two drivers that motivate and inspire me. Faith allows me to be more aware that my work is to a higher “boss” and not unto man. Family, because ultimately it is they to whom I want to provide the best life I can possibly give.
