MANILA, Philippines - You can say that having been raised in a family where she was tightly guarded by four brawny sports stars, and given high interest by a valiant banker, Chesca Trillo-Van Ormer grew up as a princess.
At home, sports was always — and still is — the main dinner topic, so Chesca ate, lived and breathed sports. We’re talking basketball royalty here. Dad Joaqui Trillo was team captain of La Salle and for 22 years has been the iconic Alaska Aces team manager, and now, its GM. Brothers Luigi, Paolo and Carlo were all La Salle basketball players.(Luigi is now the Alaska Aces coach, Paolo the team manager of Ateneo, and Carlo a sports entrepreneur and restaurateur). Mom Imelda was SVP of BPI Bank and now handles private banking for BDO.
Chesca is a pretty fixture in almost every crucial basketball game with glam mom Imelda, cheering for the Trillo men, and using her vocal power to the max. But when she gets home, she revels in still another passion: mothering. She and her husband Dean Van Ormer, the country manager of Sykes — a global leader in providing customer services in the BPO arena — have two daughters: Ariana, 7, and Kyra, 1.
“My father is hardworking in everything he does — including cooking for me and doing fun things with me in the park,†says Ariana. “My mother works hard at teaching me how to be a young lady.â€
CHESCA TRILLO-VAN ORMER says:
A good mother is always there, giving her full support and having unconditional love for her children. She also leads by example.
A good daughter is someone who respects and obeys her parents. She listens to them and takes their good advice even if sometimes it feels unfair.
The best lesson I have taught my daughters is always be truthful and honest. For them to always stick to what is real and true and be honest with the people they encounter every day and the things they do.
The best lesson I have learned from my daughter is to look at life through a seven -year-old’s eyes.
ARIANA VAN ORMER says:
A good mother is really good to her children, she cheers you up when you are sad, and helps you with stuff like math and reading.
A good daughter is not being naughty. She listens to her mommy and daddy, she shares a lot with her sister.
The best lesson my mother taught me is to be thoughtful and sharing with whoever needs it and also telling the truth always.
The best lesson my mother has learned from me is to have fun. I teach her to be happy.
