Multi-awarded theater actress and TV/advertising director Mae Paner, otherwise known as Juana Change, has been the conscience we sometimes don’t want to listen to. She gets in your face and space about matters that make us uncomfortable. She takes on issues we prefer on occasion to ignore, but what she says resonates with us somehow and sometimes starts us on the road to political awareness. In between her epal tours, I asked her to share her favorite books.
Juana Change shares her Top 5 Books
1. Conversations with God Book 1 by Neale Donald Walsch. “I read this book four times and I cried each time. Reading Conversations affirmed who I am for some parts. It was as though I saw me through its pages. It is my guide in my forever challenged spirituality.â€
2. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. “I always used to live in fear of what tomorrow would bring. Reading this book not only liberated me but gave me so much power to trust and believe in the now. It has done me wonders. I am able to live with the abundance of the universe by being ever-present in the now.â€
3. Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom by Christiane Northrup, MD. “My health is my responsibility. Dr. Northrup made me realize how the way I live affects my health and how my health affects the way I live. I am an obese diabetic. I have to listen to my body with respect for I engage with the world through it.â€
4. Friendship with God by Neale Donald Walsch. “What started out to be simple conversations with God has now become a friendship thanks to this book.â€
5. Grace and Grit by Ken Wilber. “Love makes us go over and beyond our boundaries to be able to answer the question, ‘What will love do now?’â€
