A few years back, iPad and BlackBerry were the farthest things from our minds. But now, to most of us, it’s hard to imagine life without one or both. With these new gadgets, communication is made easier, and such gadgets have made our lives both easy and stressful, too. One thing people love about them is the different applications we can choose from. Here are some friends who will share with us their favorite iPad and Blackberry apps.
Richie Coronel Santos, businessman
My favorite iPad applications are PGA Tour and NBA. The PGA Tour app keeps me updated on the latest golf scores from the major golf tournaments all over the world. At the same time I can track the scores and performance of my favorite professional golfers like Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler. It also features golf tips that help me out in my game. The NBA app is also my favorite because I can track down every day the NBA scores. I usually check the scores of my favorite team, which is the Lakers.
Milka Romero, Ateneo ’14
Veggie Samurai, not only because I’m a champion in this slice-and-dice game but also this app is so addicting it relieves me from school work stress.
Small Laude, businesswoman
My favorite apps for my Blackberry are BlackBerry messenger and Twitter. Occasionally I use Facebook. The dictionary application is so useful. With iPad my favorite game is Angry Birds, Cut the Rope and Text Twister that I play with my kids. I love Zinio library and watching my favorite shows on my iPad. I also read Bible passages there.
Bubbles Paraiso, actress/model
My favorite iPad app is called the Dream Inducer app. Because work messes up my body clock, I have a hard time sleeping most of the time. This app plays some relaxing sounds (like ocean waves, rain, etc) but releases dream-inducing “waves” also depending on what program you choose. It’s been helping me a lot.
Philip Cu-Unjieng, sales head, ABS-CBN Cable Channels and Print Media Group
For me, the iPad is, at one level, a toy I share with my sons when we’re together. The game apps like Fruit Ninja, Big Brain Quiz and Cut the Rope mean competitive fun; and playful teasing that the low-tech “old man” isn’t too shabby at these games. But, of course, their scores are always better than mine!
Carsy C. Araneta, La Salle-St Benilde ’13
My favorite iPad application is Sketchbook, which lets you draw on the iPad using different tools and different forms of drawing materials. It’s like paint with more choices. It makes drawing so much more fun!
Garlic Garcia, ABS-CBN creative head
I’ve always said “Once you go Black, you never go back!” Once you’ve held a BlackBerry in your hand and have maximized its functions, you’ll never use anything else! The power of the BlackBerry is in its easy and efficient connectivity to all forms of communication, from SMS to e-mails, Facebook and even Ubersocial for Twitter. Because of my BB, I can be anywhere in the world and never be out of the loop. My favorite BB application is BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). It is exclusive to BB users only but it allows you to share messages, even voice messages and especially my favorite photos in high resolution! This one was taken at a good friend’s wedding in Bali, Indonesia and in seconds, I was able to share it with everyone on my contact list. It also has status updates that allow people to know how you are or where you are without even needing to tell them or their needing to ask. Ubersocial for Twitter is another application I use heavily, sharing my life and thoughts, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures of my work and the people I work with to thousands of people all over the world in seconds! The end goal is always achieved — to entertain, to inspire, to connect and to, ultimately, make people, even someone you don’t know from another part of the world, happy. And that makes me happy.
Rorie Carlos Manzano, fashion and beauty director, Town & Country
I love the Amazon Kindle app. It essentially allows me to bring all of my favorite books anywhere in a compact and convenient format.
Maureen Desini, fashion designer
I’m usually on Pocket Pond with my two-year-old niece, Natalia. We both love to add frogs, fish, lilies and dragonflies together.
Charo Logarta Lagamon, external affairs, Corp. Communication,
Globe Telecom
My favorite app on my BlackBerry is Dictionary.com because it’s so nifty when you need to find the right words to say. Snaptu, which you can get free at the Globe WAP site, helps me get an instant view of Facebook and other information.
