MANILA, Philippines - Long before it became fashionable to be environmentally concerned, SM City North-EDSA already quietly made inroads towards sustainability with projects like its sewage treatment plant, energy conserving measures, and waterless urinals.
More recently it has involved its customers and tenants through its waste segregating bins, its monthly Trash to Cash project, the SM Supermalls Green Bag, and the Earth Hour. As we approach the celebration of Earth Day on April 22, the mall suggests six ways for customers to help save the environment.
Celebrate Earth Day at SM City North-EDSA.
1. Bike around the mall: Cycling is faster than driving and offers a non-polluting and quiet means of transportation. Plus it keeps you fit and healthy. Collect your cycling miles by joining the Bike Around the Mall activity at SM City North EDSA on April 22 from 6 to8 a.m.
2. Visit our Ikebana exhibit: Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement drawing emphasis to shape, line, and form. See how these ikebana arrangements celebrate the beauty of nature in an exhibit at the Sky Garden on April 22. Or visit our different flower shops around the mall and bring nature to your home with a beautiful bouquet or potted plant.
3. Take part in our tree planting project: Do your share in helping the environment by joining SM City North-EDSA’s Adopt a Tree project on April 22, 10 AM onwards at the covered walk of the SM City North-EDSA Skygarden.
4. Practice waste segregation when malling: We can surely make a difference in making a better and healthier environment by disposing our trash properly in the Segregated Trash Bins around the mall.
5. Shop with a Green Bag: Help save Mother Earth by using a Green Bag when shopping. As a creative plus, renowned artist Manny Baldemor designed the SM Supermalls Green Bag.
6. Be a trash-to- cash regular: Dispose of your paper, plastic, and electronic waste the proper way by being a regular in the mall’s Recycling Market Fair every first Friday and Saturday of the month. You will not only be able to dispose of your trash properly but also are able to trade it for some cash.
