There are many things to appreciate about the weekend: late brunch, no alarm, lazy afternoons.
Perhaps the most enjoyable part about our two-day bacchanalia is the lack of dress code. After all, coffee at Starbucks doesn’t require a dress shirt and pressed trousers. For the weekend, casual sporty goods — like a nice shirt and pants that look as comfortable as they feel — are it. At The Podium, retailers like Nautica and Izod and numerous other shops have mastered the weekend look. I’ve put together some looks that’ll take you from the city pavement to the boardwalk. Watch and learn.
Buffalo
For those who like their weekends edgier, this is a brand for you. Distressed denims in great cuts, sexy tops, and well-detailed accessories comprise the Buffalo line. In its hip and newly renovated store, one can find all sorts of weekend wear that can look great for the journey, and take you straight to the nightclubs. Get ready to rock ’n roll.
Izod
A line with a sporty disposition, focusing on classic shapes and bolder colors, Izod has become a favorite addition to one’s weekend wardrobe. Easy to wear separates can be mixed and matched with ease. These clothes would do well at afternoon cocktails at the country club, and will also wear well playing on the greens. Check out their bold sports bags to add a dash of color to your weekend.
Geox
Footwear that is engineered to breathe. Perfect for long walks touring around the weekend, these shoes range from traditional to contemporary. Their pieces can take one from workday to weekend and, judging from the pieces I tried, are light in the luggage. Pair their loafers with long shorts and a pique knit polo for a stylishly simple look. For the ladies, the metallic finish and sequined ballet flats set a trendier tone this season, perfect for a relaxed night out.
Nautica
Known for its maritime-inspired looks, this brand has been a favorite of the prepster set for many years. While the brand stays close to its roots, Nautica is not strictly for the traditional set. Logo tees look retro-relaxed when paired with the brand’s denims, and get dressed up when layered with one of their great striped long-sleeved shirts, for example. Jackets are well detailed and quite useful for braving the elements out of town and in the city.
Lacoste Footwear
Coming from a line that’s historically rooted in sportswear gives Lacoste an edge with its shoes. Its heritage of design, quality and comfort lends itself well to the wide selection of footwear which range from moccasins to sneakers and sandals. Cool old-school style sneaks mingle with futuristic looking versions in this store, which also carries accessories like super-hip white plastic sunglasses and house fragrances.
