MANILA, Philippines - I recently got an email from vet Mayem Yao of Pendragon clinic. She informed me that her clinic would be doing surgery on a stray dog that lost both his hind feet.
The Philippine Animal Rescue Tam (PART), which is working with vet Mayem, recount how Blade was found and rescued.
“We got a report of a dog that was tied in a corner of a street in Sampaloc, Manila. The person who found the dog informed us that both his hind legs were sawed off. One look at the photo we received in the report and we were off and running to locate his whereabouts. What greeted us was beyond heartbreaking. The dog was sitting and soaking in his own urine. His hind legs were badly cut off, exposing flesh and bones.
“We were informed that he was hit by a passing train but nobody knew who owned the dog or who left him there. And the ultimate shocker was that he had been in that condition for three days! No shade! No food, no water!
“Blade as we now call him was rushed to the vet. Even though we are already beyond our maximum limit for rescues we weren’t about to turn a blind eye to Blade who desperately needed our help.
“Blade’s condition is complicated. Both hind legs have experienced severe trauma, and have been amputated at the ankle level to allow Blade the use of prosthetics. His surgery and ongoing treatment will be very expensive and at some point we will need to get him fitted for prosthetics. But despite his condition, Blade is a happy dog. He wagged his tail and gave us a smile that only a dog grateful to be saved can give.”
We need all the help we can get for Blade. If you want to help Blade your donations can be sent to: PayPal email at donations@philanimalrescue.org. (Please note that it’s for Blade). — KATHY MORAN
