The joy of connections at home

The new family time: Connected the PLDT Home way
STAR/ File

I don’t know about you, but I’m especially happy that my life has become more digital since the pandemic. I have been working with technology in its many forms (more so mobile communication) for over 15 years now.  And although the pandemic brought with it many sad and bad things with it — truth to tell — technology grew faster during the pandemic.

After all, we all had to deal with the work from home — all the Zoom meetings, e-mails and instant messages we had to send, and all the files we had to download and upload. Of course, there’s also all the video content and music we had to stream, and for some of us, the online games we had no choice but to play at home.

Let’s not start on folks that decided to become video content creators.

I certainly can’t imagine doing all of that without reliable internet. That became an absolute must. That’s why it’s a great thing that internet speeds here in the Philippines kept going up and up, faster and faster. I have to say that it’s really amazing how far we’ve come.

I mean, speeds now aren’t even the same from a year ago. According to internet testing leader Ookla’s analysis, the Philippines has recorded an average download speed of 87.13 Mbps for fixed broadband networks in Dec. 2022 — a year before that on Dec. 2021, it was only 50.26 Mbps. That’s almost double.

This year-on-year increase means one thing: our internet is only getting better and better. I remember broadband’s younger years; you’d have to pay a lot more, thousands of pesos, to enjoy the speeds we’re enjoying now. Of course, the internet wasn’t as bandwidth-intensive then as it is now, but only companies and offices could afford to have blazing-fast broadband. Now we’re getting the most value and quality for our money, and it’s only getting better.

At home, PLDT Home has been and continues to be a pioneer in the growth and evolution of broadband internet in the Philippines. The company set up the first internet connection in the country almost 30 years ago, has continued its consistent evolution since, and today, those strong numbers recorded by Ookla are driven mostly by PLDT Home’s excellent service around the country.

In most of their quarterly and half-year reports, Ookla has named PLDT Home as the fastest fixed internet in the Philippines, especially in many areas outside major cities. The latest data from 2022 shows that PLDT achieved a Speed Score of 77.91 and a top download speed of 210.83, a good gap away from the closest competitor. That’s impressive!

When it comes to my experience, I can say that I’ve been really happy with my PLDT Home subscription for many years. They’ve also consistently given me the best quality of service, and the best internet for everything I do. I enjoy my favorite content without a hitch thanks to the strong connection of PLDT. I’m able to work well because of it, too — I also get to connect with everyone constantly, anytime, and I have no problems checking social media every day, especially when it comes to my passion of finding and rescuing animals to give homes to.

Because PLDT Home continues to evolve and give us better internet service, I can’t wait to see how much better than today my PLDT Home internet will be in a year. Maybe even in six months. If you’re looking for an ISP that you can count on, you definitely can’t go wrong with PLDT Home. You can learn more and apply for your own connection if you don’t have one yet by going to pldthome.com.

Life is returning to more face-to-face interactions, but I am always happy to get home to my PLDT Home internet knowing that my communications are never cut — they are always seamless.
