Top designers create spaces for Horizon Homes

MANILA, Philippines - Renowned interior designers Ivy Almario and Cynthia Almario, Cyndi Fernandez, and architect Conrad Onglao have come up with interior concepts for Horizon Homes, according to different aesthetic and functional elements, envisioning how they would go about designing a homeowner’s residence.

For the whole family

A home without a doubt is a space where one feels safest. This means not worrying every second if the children will hurt themselves on sharp furniture pieces or break something of value. With this in mind, the Almario sisters Ivy and Cynthia design a space that both pleases the eye and is safe for every member of the family to freely go about their days.

The Almarios are the creative brains behind Atelier Almario, a business known for their exquisite executions on high-end commercial and residential spaces. Both Ivy and Cynthia lived and worked in Los Angeles, California for over 15 years, where they honed their expertise in their craft.

“We envision a home that’s both beautiful and safe for children,” say the dynamic sisters. “We want to open up the bedroom to the living room with concealed sliding doors. We also need to generate more space without sacrificing function thus we suggest installing double beds, the type that folds into a wall. We also want to make sure that the layout will allow for sprawl and crawl space.”

A large table that is low in height is ideal for easy reach, for crafts and activities.  “All other furniture should be chosen for their soft edges, not only for the children but for the grandparents, too!”

For those who work from home

In most families, the home office plays a wide variety of roles. It is your 9-to-5 place of business, so it’s best to keep it practical and simple.

Conrad Onglao, one of the country’s most sought-after architects, has designed some of the best commercial and residential spaces, including the homes of Manila’s most influential personalities.

“For Horizon Homes, we imagine an elegant space for the semi-retired businessman. This can be attained through fine details, classic furniture and elements.  This space translates to a luxurious but clean and elegant home,” he says.

He adds that the details and elements make up the design: smoothness of walls, sleek furniture pieces with soft, velvet-like fabric, leather upholstery, and classic marble veins.

Together with its aesthetic appeal, the functionality and flow of the interior space is prioritized. Starting from the signature pieces resting on top of a marble console table, passing by that luxurious baby grand, classic pendant lights highlighting the wood details, to the relaxing home office viewpoint from which the mind can wander.

For those who love to entertain

Cyndi Fernandez is well known in the industry as she continues to lend her expert touch on high-end commercial interior design and events through her company, Moss Manila Home and Moss Manila, respectively. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, she continued her studies at the Parsons School of Design in NYC.

She envisioned a unit with a gallant and generous hostess in mind, with her dining room reflecting her style of classical contemporary comfort. “The dining room of her home mirrors her fondness for the luxurious aspect of European design — a modern take to the Early Renaissance coffered ceiling is reflected on the ceiling pattern as well as the door of the buffet cabinet,” Fernandez explains. “A suspended wrought-iron chandelier with silk conical shades illuminates the space and casts a warm glow on the table, drawing attention to its details.”

Fashioned in a grand manner, the formal dining room provides a feast for the eyes and accommodates her guests when they come over. There are ample seating spaces offered by dining chairs, whose classical silhouettes have been given a current twist.

Seats are fully upholstered and cushioned for extra comfort while having late night conversations over a bottle (or two) of wine.
