A wine tasting party is a creative way to gather friends together to learn about wine and experiment with new or unusual varietals.
Bibendum, one of the leading wine merchants in Central and Southern Philippines, recently hosted a wine tasting event to service the needs of wine enthusiasts by offering a wide selection of quality wines from across the globe.
The group atmosphere offered guests the opportunity to share opinions and conclusions, shaping and strengthening each individuals appreciation of the different wines offered during the course of the evening.
In attendance were some of Cebu’s noted wine collectors, hoteliers, as well as oenophiles. They were there not just to sample some of Bibendum’s latest additions to their already wide selection of highly-rated European and American wines, but also to participate in raising funds to continue the relief efforts for northern Cebu, this time to assist fishermen by building or rebuilding their fishing boats.
As for the menu, Bibendum prepared a variety of hard and soft cheeses of different potency. Next door neighbor Café Georg likewise set up different types of cocktail appetizers such as it’s signature spinach dip and St. Galler schublig sausages with bread and crackers to cleanse the palate between tastings.
The evening’s premium wines were the 2009 Stag’s Leap Estate Fay Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley that was most loved for its deep color and dark berry, spices and floral notes and the 2007 Alter Ego de Palmer from Bordeaux which was also praised for its aromas of chocolate, berry and coffee. Other great performers included the 2010 Blason d’Issan, the 2007 La Croix de Beaucaillou, as well as the 2008 Le Petit Haut Lafitte, all from Bordeaux, the world’s pre-eminent wine producing region, just as France is the pre-eminent wine country.
The concluding thought was it is simple to find wine to enjoy. There are no definite rules. If you like it, it’s good. If you love it, it’s great.
