Making your own Havaianas is fun

Good sandals are always a pleasure to wear, especially if you value comfort above anything else.

While the variety of flipflops is astonishing, one brand stands out, Havaianas, which was first shaped during the ‘60s. Modeled and inspired by the traditional Japanese slippers called the zori, Havaianas through the years evolved and has become a Brazilian icon.

A.L. Amizade’s Aimil Sarmiento and Leanne Florendo, exclusive sub-distributors of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas, recently hosted  a fun activity dubbed “Make Your Own Havaianas 2013” at the SM City Northwing.

With this year’s theme Imagination the flip-flops took on a life of their own and had everyone’s creativity soaring.  The vibrant and colorful spirit of the event was carried out in innovative touches everywhere and Havaianas got their creativeness flowing in the many fun interactive areas that included the yarn wall, where one could connect the dots to see their imagination come to life, to the “design a sole” wall and peep hole, which featured Filipino illustrator and collaborator Dan Matutina’s glow-in-the-dark commemorative pair under black light for guests to appreciate. A stilt walker, robot mime, magicians and balloon twisters entertained  the guests.

Taking it a step further, a sweet tooth station encouraged guests to “make their own desserts” by decorating, frosting and designing their own cupcakes and cookies.

The highlight of the event was naturally  the exciting  experience of mixing and matching colorful soles and straps and embellishing  them with crystals, charms and themed pins, most popular of which were the hot air balloon, spaceman, alien, owl and stars. Each MYOH pair was packaged in an exclusive canvas bag, which was personalized with the colored pens enclosed.

Every pair made during MYOH had its own unique story to tell. And true enough, “Havaianaticos” told theirs in this year’s parade of fun, happiness, excitement and adventure.
