Walk for Bacoor cityhood

Manila, Philippines -  The municipality of Bacoor is getting ready to conduct a plebiscite on June 23 that will decide the full implementation of a law (RA 10160, or the Charter of the City of Bacoor) that converts the town into a component city.

Mayor Strike Revilla has been conducting consultations with key leaders and residents of the 73 barangays.

Various activities have been lined up, including a press conference today and a Fun Walk (Walk for YES! Alay-Lakad Tungo sa Pagiging Lungsod ng Bacoor) on June 16.

Mayor Revilla said Republic Act 10160 will not be fully implemented unless the people of Bacoor vote in favor of the cityhood proposal through a referendum, which will be held this month. He added that more infrastructure projects will be implemented once the town becomes a city.

On the tax issue, Mayor Revilla said the law prohibits a newly converted city to implement a tax increase within five years.

“After five years, the tax increase is not automatic, the city council will still determine if the city needs to adjust its tax rates. And if so, it (tax increase) can’t be more than 10 percent,” Mayor Revilla stressed.

To join the event, register at the Public Information Office, 4th floor, Municipal Hall of Bacoor and look for Kei.
