Ballet Manila opens auditions this weekend

MANILA, Philippines - Do you dream of becoming a professional ballerina and dancing with the country’s most prolific ballet company? Do you want to study and be trained by no less than the only Philippine-based prima ballerina? This summer, your dreams may just come true!

On March 24 and 25, Ballet Manila (BM) School is opening auditions for female company members, apprentices and scholars. Interested parties may register beginning 10 a.m., while audition proper starts at 2 p.m. on both days. Registration fee is P300. Full and half scholarships will be available to deserving young talents. Meanwhile, applicants who do not qualify for a scholarship are welcome to enroll as regular paying students for the summer workshop.

Now in its 17th year, Ballet Manila School’s annual Intensive Summer Training Workshop is scheduled to begin on April 10 and will culminate in a first full-length recital of Swan Lake! on May 26-27 at the Aliw Theater.   The recital will involve more than 200 students and Project Ballet Futures scholars.

Classes offered include classical ballet technique taught in five levels: Baby Ballet, Level I, Level II, Level III and Level IV; Apprentice Class; and Modern Dance. (Adult ballet and yoga may also be held depending on the number of enrollees.)

BM artistic director and principal ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, with artistic associate Osias Barroso, lead a highly qualified faculty of experienced professional dancers-cum-teachers trained in the Vaganova (Russian) technique.

Aside from the tuition and recital fees, BM School offers an affordable package that includes: tickets to the recitals, costume rentals, pictorial for the souvenir program, souvenir program, and other miscellaneous fees.

Classes will be held from Tuesdays to Saturdays at the Ballet Manila studios at 1915 Donada Street, Pasay City. Interested parties are encouraged to enroll or make reservations in advance, as each class will only be limited to 20 students for a more effective instruction.
