MANILA, Philippines - Within a span of two weeks in October, SM opened two new supermalls in Laguna, showing the company’s confidence in this historical, scenic, and bustling province.
SM City San Pablo and SM City Calamba opened their doors to the public on Oct. 1 and Oct. 15, respectively. These are SM Prime Holdings’ 38th and 39th malls, and the second and third to open in Laguna after SM City Santa Rosa, which opened in 2006.
Huge crowds packed the malls during their opening days as residents were eager to enjoy SM’s shopping, leisure, and entertainment excitement closer to home.
Strategically located on a 68,945-sq.m. property along Marikina Highway, SM City San Pablo serves shoppers in the city as well as travelers to and from Quezon, Bicolandia, and Batangas.
Known as the country’s only city with seven lakes, San Pablo has a wonderful balance between industrialization and nature. It is not only scenically beautiful, but also positioned for growth with excellent telecommunications, power infrastructures, abundant skilled manpower, and tourist destinations.
SM’s second mall in Laguna has two levels and 40,281 sq.m. of great shopping space. It has two phases to construction — the first, which opened on Oct. 1, has major anchors like SM Department Store and Supermarket, as well as SM mainstays like Watsons, SM Appliance Center, and Ace Hardware; a food court with an al fresco dining deck, and exciting shops and restaurants.
The second phase, which will include four cinemas and restaurants, will be housed in a separate building at the rear of the property. In both areas, retail shops and restaurants are organized, and located for excellent visibility and access. SM City San Pablo also has allocated 600 parking spaces for customer convenience.
SM City Calamba, on the other hand, is strategically located on a 55,102 sq.m. site in barangay Real, Calamba City, and will serve customers in Calamba as well as nearby towns like Alaminos, Bay, Caluan, and Los Baños in Laguna; as well as Santo Tomas in Batangas.
The 66,514-sq.m., three-level mall’s modern design featuring simple, bold forms interlocked together for maximum “curb” appeal, make it an eye-catching landmark in the area. Vivid and whimsical patterns and furnishings provide visual interest around the mall, which is illuminated by skylights that provide abundant lighting to all portions of the mall.
SM City Calamba brings the SM experience closer to home with over 150 shops, restaurants and service stores led by its major anchors, SM Department Store and SM Supermarket. SM mainstays like Watsons, the SM Appliance Center, Ace Hardware, and the Cyberzone provide more shopping fun as do boutiques like Folded & Hung, Bench, and Shapes.
Dining options include SM Food Court where one can get good food fast, as well as fast-food chains like Jollibee, Mang Inasal, and Starbucks. SM Cinema, as well as Tom’s World, and Wonderpark will provide fun for the whole family, while David’s Salon, Let’s Face It, and Bioessence will pamper shoppers.
SM City Calamba’s strategic location, beside transport terminals and 50 meters away from the Calamba crossing, makes the mall accessible to shoppers. For customer convenience, the mall has 335 open parking slots, 993 slots of motorcycle parking, as well as a jeepney terminal with 44 slots and a bus terminal with 18 slots.
