MANILA, Philippines - With the whole nation in high bayanihan spirit, SM Development Corporation (SMDC) is pooling all its resources to provide relief assistance to Ondoy victims.
Having recently celebrated its new company philosophy, SMDC vice chairman and chief executive officer Henry Sy Jr. champions the importance of the 4Cs (competent, credible, conscientious, caring) — four values he wants all of his employees to possess and exemplify, which is fitting in these difficult times.
“These are four simple words that not only encapsulate SMDC’s core values but also inspire our employees to always be ‘good guys,’ said Sy. “Being good guys not only means work efficiency but also a rich sense of corporate social sensibility and responsibility.”
Putting these values into immediate action, SMDC’s Typhoon Ondoy Relief Goods Operation visited different calamity-stricken areas in the metro. With the assistance of the Municipal Social Welfare Development through the SM Foundation and Brgy. Sto. Domingo officials, SMDC recently donated more than 2,000 care packages to the residents of three barangays in Cainta, Rizal. The relief packages contained canned goods, pasta, water and biscuits.
Conducted by SMDC volunteer employees and executives, they also forwarded over 4,000 relief packages to the offices of Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista and Councilors Jun Inton and RJ Belmonte.
Ondoy’s onslaught brought a month’s worth of rainfall over Metro Manila, causing the worst flooding in 40 years. Ondoy has marked a place in history as one of the country’s most damaging typhoons.
