Fashion is 'ferosh' again

After the drought comes the rain. And when it rains, oh yes, it pours. At a Nokia-Fashion Watch after-party, I was surprised to see a bevy of new faces that surrounded the style set. My ramp radar signaled an alarm, and immediately, I knew that the changing of the glam guards had been called to camera action.

Let’s face it, there was a time when the fashion scene bordered on the bland. Too pretty, safe and predictable. Same faces, same poses. When we hear of the theatrics from fashion folk of yore, we feel deprived of character — of ferocity. Not that we don’t have it, but there’s been no avenue for the ladies to show off their inner drama queens.

Thanks to Fashion Watch and the now movers of the runway realm, we have new girls, new attitudes and whole new levels of fierce — wait, ferosh! “We discovered them during go-sees and decided that we need to train a new batch,” said McC Cuan, head of Fashion Watch Faces. His partner, Grace Molina, is no stranger to being in charge of models, having been a former president of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP). “It makes us proud seeing them grow not just as models but as individuals,” said the gorgeous Grace.

These magnificent mannequins were as of yet nameless, but what they lack in name, they made up for with presence. There are times when one can be quite jaded in the scene, but seeing these girls made me look all over the room, having been jolted by the strong currents that they exude — more clawing than cloying. Grrrr…

Alongside model of supreme degree Ria Bolivar, the Fashion Watch Faces held their own. One day you’re thin, the next day you pout. But more than pout we made them do. Supreme challenged each of the 22 preeminent pouters to give us their most electrifying, distinct and striking pose. We then named each pose after them. Nope, these are not your regular head tilting, profile exploiting cliché poses. Kids, you can try these at home.

And while you’re at it, let us all welcome the new faces of “ferosh.”
