What do Paul Mc-Cartney (the former Beatle responsible for classics such as Live and Let Die and Another Day), American Idol judge Simon Cowell and INXS lead singer JD Fortune have in common — aside from being involved in the music industry? The three hunks are pet-lovers who have participated in the ad campaigns of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Paul and JD are also vegetarians.
And then there is former tennis great Martina Navratilova, who is a celebrity in her own right. Navratilova rallies people to make the vegetarian lifestyle choice.

PETA has also become more active in the last few years. So daring has the group become that they have put giant billboards along main thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
So, what do surfer dude and yoga guru Corey Wills, model Isabel Roces, model and yoga instructor Raya Mananquil, and actress Chin-Chin Gutierrez have in common? Aside from being part of PETA’s Asian campaign for the better treatment of animals, they are all vegetarians.
STAR news editor Marichu Villanueva shared with us a CD given to her by the people at PETA. The CD is loaded with wonderful material on going vegetarian, as well as some of the campaigns PETA launched in Asia for their vegetarian cause.
The posters are really great.

And then there are the postcards that have been lovingly made by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) volunteers, which feature some of their native dogs who resided in the shelter at one time or another. The photos of the dogs were taken by Sherwin Castillo and the layout of the cards were made by Genesis Uichanco.
Here are samples of the texts that accompany the postcards.
JOYCE
A rescuer paid for Joyce’s freedom, just in time to save her from becoming someone’s meal. She stayed at the shelter for a few days before she passed away.
MOKKA
Mokka was brought to the shelter with babies in her tummy. She and her puppies have all found happy homes.
NICOLE
Nicole has a congestive heart problem. She would do better in a home where she would be cared for and loved for the rest of her life.
HANNY
Six-year-old Hanny was left by his guardians at the shelter. They promised to return for him, but never did. Thankfully, a new guardian adopted Hanny and he now enjoys the pleasure of playing with his new family every day.
TALA
Tala is a born star. After being adopted, she won in the Philippine Animal Welfare Society’s first Native Dog Pageant, and was declared the Pinakamagandang Hayop sa Balat ng Lupa.
