Down musical memory lane

It was a heavenly walk down memory lane for music lovers everywhere at The Ultimate Reunion Concert of The New Minstrels Five Generations at the Aliw Theater on Roxas Boulevard. The New Minstrels (TNM) was the country’s hottest showband in the 70s, and they certainly proved that they still have that magic touch when it comes to music — former TNM members Joey Albert, Ray-an Fuentes, Louie Reyes, Ding Mercado, and Eugene Villaluz led the rest of the ultra-talented performers in delighting the crowd with their original songs and renditions of classics such as their well received Barry Manilow medley, Sergio Mendes medley, and Burt Bacharach medley. With Audie Gemora as director, Babes Conde as musical director, United Multiart Prod. Inc. as producer, the show was a huge hit, which included music enthusiasts from Manila’s social elite and top businessmen, such as Heritage Park’s Jack Kidwiler.

After the concert, all of the New Minstrels were treated to sumptuous cocktails and fine wine courtesy of Torres Wines. The event was a huge success, thanks in part to generous sponsors Heritage Park, Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila, and Philippine Airlines, among many others. It was a truly memorable evening, as even your columnist was moved to sing and dance along with the fantastic music! Congratulations for a great, great show!
