Los Indios Borachos: Art for Tado

MANILA, Philippines – They don't believe in their talents, but they're doing it anyway.

It has been almost three months since celebrity/activist Arvin “Tado” Jimenez died due to an accident when his passenger bus fell into a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province.

Tado, for many people, left his family, friends, and fans in shock.

Los Indios Borachos (Mga Lasing Na Indio) has no theme, no concept, nor plan, but Tado's close friends, internet sensation Ramon Bautista, broadcast journalist Lourd De Veyra and directors RA Rivera and Rodolfo “Jun” Sabayton didn't hesitate to respond to an invitation to put up an art exhibit for a cause.

“Mga lasing na indio, based yan sa isang photo na kunwari mga lasinggero kami sa Madrid,” explained De Veyra. “Parang dun na lang kami kumuha ng title, wala na kasi kaming maisip.”

Past yet worthy

The whole gallery is a collection of Instagram posts, sketches, collage, photography and paintings. The gang admitted that they don't see artistic value in their works, but it was their artist and photographer colleague MM Yu who saw the potential and made the exhibit possible that will run until May 31.

“Hindi kami naniniwala sa mga talents namin,”said De Veyra.

“Yung mga collage and drawing (ginawa namin) yan nung mga panahong walang trabaho,” Sabayton added who is also known for his monicker “Bayaw.”

Most pieces are previous works that made their way to the walls of Pablo Gallery in Bonifacio Global City Taguig and hopefully to the partitions of every possible buyers' place. 

“Marami past works,” explained Rivera. “Siya (MM) lang nakakita ng artistic value sa iba naming mga ginawa na sa palagay niya pwedeng mabenta tapos maitulong.”

Push for luck

Rivera admitted that they have no idea if anyone is interested to buy their works, but they are hopeful to raise any amount to help Tado's family.

“Para sa kids, bahala na sila kung anong gagawin nila sa pera,” said Rivera who used to work  alongside  Tado since  the documentary show “Strangebrew” days.

“Hindi rin naman namin alam kung magkano 'yung mare-raise na pondo, hindi namin alam kung may gustong bumili ng mga ginawa namin, kapalan na lang ng mukha, pero kung ano man ang ma-raise ibibigay namin.”

PABLO is located at C-11 South of Market Bonifacio Global City, Taguig and is open from Tuesday to Saturday,12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Entrance is free.
