Gmail turns 9: Google highlights evolution

Gmail officially turned 9-years-old today. To highlight its evolution, Google came up with an infographic showing Gmail's travel through the years.

Google said much of Gmail's evolution is a result of feedbacks from users.

The company recalled it was inspired by one user’s feedback that she was tired of struggling to find emails buried deep in her inbox.

As a response, Google built a new email that leveraged the power of Google Search.

Then there were complains about spam, which Google attended to and now feedback makes it possible for Gmail to filter out well over 99 percent of incoming spam.

The search giant also cited its introduction of the Priority Inbox that aided users in dealing with information overload thus helping them to manage their emails. Google added they're still exploring new ways to make it even easier.

And as Gmail's year 10 gets underway, Google through its infographic, took the opportunity for netizens to see at how much has changed.
