Giving handicapped kids a hand

MANILA, Philippines -  Although the blithely unaffected girl named Sette was completely blind in one eye and already partially blind in the other, she was able to visualize an insightful and expressive painting. Another girl named Gina had cerebral palsy, but she had joy in her eyes and a coloring implement in her hand. In the spirit of developing unconventional talent worthy of universal inspiration, the Center for Possibilities (CFP), headed by Dolores Cheng, gathered special hands for a meeting of minds with expert and reputable Filipino artists.  Entitled “Hand in Hand: The Special Power of Two,” the first CFP painting workshop for persons with developmental difficulties allowed children of all ages to begin colorful illustrations that supportive professional artists finished with care.  Compliments of Rotarian Marila Burgos, the on-the-spot painting activity was held recently at the Ecca Gallery in Valle Verde I. It was organized in conjunction with the Rotary Club of San Juan GEMS and in celebration of Rotary International Day. The artistic endeavor was made possible with the help of painters like Rene Robles, Al Perez, Cusi, and Armida Francisco. On behalf of the CFP, the GEMS also wish to thank SDG Luz Cotoco, RC Pasig SDG Conrad Cuesta, RC Pasig president Rel Gomez, RC Pasig South president Ricky Felizardo, and District 3800 Governor Rafael Garcia III. Each masterpiece will be mounted and displayed at the forthcoming Rotary District Convention at the World Trade Center on March 23. They will be sold to the highest bidders to raise funds for the CFP Foundation.
