MANILA, Philippines - Achieving a fit and healthy body is becoming a goal among people today despite their busy lifestyles. This health awareness was definitely present in the thousands of people who joined the biggest race in the south, the RUNew 2010 fundraising fun run by Asian Hospital and Medical Center, held at the Filinvest Corporate City in Alabang.
In its second year, RUNew attracted close to 2,000 participants, composed of health professionals, running enthusiasts, health and fitness buffs, families, and friends. The fun run aimed to engage the public to be active and healthy to avoid diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
Explains Theo Seiler, chief executive officer of Asian Hospital and Medical Center, “As a top medical institution, Asian Hospital has committed itself not only to the treatment but more importantly to the prevention of diseases, particularly those caused by poor lifestyle choices. RUNew is part of this advocacy, which is in line with the promotion of our breakthrough Lifestyle Medicine Center that caters to preventive medicine. Through our efforts, we want to generate public awareness on the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle to prevent the development of illnesses, which they can do by being active in sports like running and eating healthy.”
Besides Seiler, joining runners in running for their health were top cardiologist and Asian Hospital and Medical Center founding chair Dr. Jorge Garcia, chief medical officer Dr. Juan Rosas, Asian Hospital’s new chief operating officer Steven Covington, and marketing director Jun Amistoso.
Dr. Rosas adds that in combination with a healthy diet and exercise, Asian Hospital and Medical Center wants to instill as well the value of yearly executive check-ups and other lifestyle intervention services to help achieve better health.
RUNew 2010 was also held to raise donations for the Asian Hospital Charities, Inc., which handles the medical and surgical care of indigent patients.
With RUNew, Asian Hospital and Medical Center hopes that more Filipinos will get into a healthy lifestyle and instill in themselves the importance of lifestyle interventions to fully achieve a fit and healthy body.
