PSO Annual Convention

Oncologists and physicians involved in cancer care are expected to attend the 17th annual convention of the Philippine Society of Oncology on October 12-13, 2001 at the Shangri-La EDSA Plaza Hotel. According to Dr. Miriam Joy Calaguas, chair of the Organizing Committee, this year’s theme is "Current Trends in Cancer Management."

PSO president Dr. Nicasio T. Salang said the chosen theme speaks of the Society’s general regard to the cancer problem and there are hosts of issues that need to be addressed to curb the problem. He added that this year’s convention will include a breakfast conference and two luncheon symposia to beef up the scientific program. The pharmaceutical exhibition will feature 41 participating companies.

The PSO was founded in 1964 with the mission of being "a medical professional organization devoted to the integration of various disciples in the study and treatment of cancer." The Society is affiliated with the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) and members are composed of doctors from different specialties such as surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, pain management experts, and anesthesiologists from all over the Philippines.
