MANILA, Philippines - Coach Tim Cone’s advice to dads-to-be: ‘Really listen to your children. Listening to your children gives them great security. And to me, that’s the number-one job of parents: to make your children secure with themselves.’
A dad may wear many hats — chaser of nightmares, diaper changer, clown, driver, toy finder and so on. He is like a superhero with many identities. But, first and foremost, he is a father.
Tim Cone — who has spent 25 years in basketball — is currently the head coach of San Mig Super Coffee Mixers. Despite the grueling work, Tim is still able to balance family and career. “They are all very much involved with my games and the team, and that allows me to mix my job with family.â€
The head coach shares he has a very close relationship with his kids. With a strong athletics background, Tim bonds with his kids through sports, like wakeboarding. He and his family also enjoy going to the beach and taking trips together. He says, “Dinnertime is an important time for us, where we make it a point to sit at the table together and talk. We also have Sunday lunch at their grandparents’ house, which I believe is a great tool for promoting the family.â€
His advice to dads-to-be: “Really listen to your children. To really stop what you’re doing and look them in the eye and really listen to what they’re saying. It may not seem important to you all the time, but it is always important to them. Listening to your children gives them great security. And to me, that’s the number one job of parents: to make your children secure with themselves.â€
Tim Cone is a super dad with super-cool style. He defines his aesthetic as “sporty and relaxed†because of his outdoorsy lifestyle. His sons, meanwhile, share the same preference for athletic pieces.
He may be a man-on-the-go, but he is most comfortable in smart casual wear. For work, he opts for a Pierre Cardin pink long-sleeve button-up with denim details paired with slim-fit cotton canvas pants and chestnut-brown premium Clarks leather shoes. During weekends with the family, he prefers a long-sleeve denim button-down, slim-fit cotton pants from Pierre Cardin, and duty deep-brown desert boots from Clarks.
Chef Martin Kaspar says kids need a good foundation, boundaries and guidance. And his secret to a happy life involves honesty, respect and lots of laughter. But most importantly, ‘Never go to sleep after an argument!’
Martin Kaspar is a Swiss chef and is also the man behind the well-loved European restaurant L’Entrecôte Corner Bar & Bistro at the Burgos Circle in Bonifacio Global City. He forged a culinary career at age 16 and worked his way to becoming an international chef for several different hotel chains around the world. “I love to cook and I love to put a smile on people’s faces.â€
But no matter how busy he gets, family always comes first for the chef-restaurateur. “Important for me are meals together. We have early dinners so we can talk about what happened during the day,†he says of their family routine. “Sometimes you don’t have much time to be with your kids because of work — but if you do, make it quality time!â€
The hands-on dad makes sure of this by bringing his son to school every morning. “I love the morning talks we have. A great way to start your day!†The father and son bond through sports, like swimming and tennis.
Martin has an affinity for the classics and prefers to be in his jeans and casual shirts after he gets out of his chef’s jacket. For clothes, his go-to brand is British India for its ultra-comfortable cotton offerings and for shoes, Clarks. “I love Clarks shoes. Sorry, correction. My feet love them!†he says.
At work he wears British India. A regular fit long-sleeve jungle-printed shirt paired with cotton pants, and tan duty desert boots from Clarks. Other times, he opts for a floral printed long-sleeved cotton shirt from British India.
