MANILA, Philippines - Next Monday, Jan. 18, join Discovery Channel as Tattoo Hunter’s “tattoo anthropologist” Lars Krutak treks to the Philippines for a premire episode filmed in the Cordillera Mountains. In the episode, shown locally at 11 p.m. and repeating the following weeks, Krutak travels to this region to learn more about the Kalinga head-hunter tattoo and maybe even get one himself — if the tribe feels he is worthy of receiving it.
Krutak began his tattoo research in 1996 and has spent years exploring the complex symbolism and practice of tattooing. On Discovery Channel’ Tattoo Hunter, he investigates ancient body modification rituals from around the world and immerses himself in the daily life of warriors, cannibals and headhunters to understand the meaning behind these sacred traditions.
