Opus One wines at Wine Story

MANILA, Philippines - Wine Story presents vintages that have sprung from of two legendary men of wines — the late Philippe de Rothschild Rothschild, owner of that great first-growth Bordeaux, and Napa Valley’s famous vintner Robert Mondavi.

Opus One was crafted from the word denoting the first masterwork of a composer. An additional word was proposed, hence the term “Opus One.” It became known as America’s first ultra-premium wine, the magnum opus springing from the partnership of Mondavi and Rothschild.

The vision of both Mondavi and de Rothschild was “spare no expense,” and to be totally “dedicated to the art form of making wine” and in the process they produced a Bordeaux-style red from the famous Californian Cabernet Sauvignon, using centuries of French know-how.

The Opus One wines include: the Opus One 2010, characterized by aromas of blackberry, rose petals, chocolate and espresso, accentuating fruity and earthy nuances; Opus One 2009, characterized by aromas of black olive and minerals underlie more traditional notes of dark chocolate, cola and espresso, and flavors of ripe blueberry, cassis and licorice; Opus One 2008, with aromas of rose petals, cassis and black cherry melding with notes of marzipan and sandalwood; Opus One 2007, which has terrific black currant fruit, licorice, incense, and subtle smoke, an opulent, even voluptuous mouthfeel, dazzling purity and texture.
