Kitchen Recipes from the Heart at SM on Oct. 16 and 17

MANILA, Philippines - SM celebrates the rich heritage of Filipino cuisine in “Kitchen Recipes from the Heart,” a project of the SM Supermalls Yes Tourism! Committee.

The project brings together renowned IACP award-winning food writer Grace Young and New York-based Amy Besa of Purple Yam, food writer Nancy Reyes-Lumen, Malacañang’s first executive chef Babes Austria, and other culinary experts.

“Kitchen Recipes from the Heart” will be launched on Oct. 16 simultaneously at the SM Mall of Asia, SM City North EDSA and SM Megamall.

Grace Young and Amy Besa top bill the event at the SM Mall of Asia at on Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. Grace Young is a three-time IACP award winning writer and recipient of prestigious awards like the Jane Grigson Award for distinguished scholarship and the World Food Media Award.

Grace, whose work has appeared in Gastronomica, Gourmet, and Saveur magazines, has written two other books, The Breath of a Wok and Stir Frying to the Sky’s Edge.   Amy Besa is a culinary expert who owns and operates Purple Yam in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, New York. She co-authored Memories of Philippine Kitchens, a book about the years they spent tracing the traditions of Philippine food, with husband Romy Dorotan, which won the IACP Jane Grigson Award for Distinguished Scholarship in the Quality Research of Presentation

Nancy Reyes Lumen will be at SM City North EDSA. Chef Babes Austria will round up the Oct. 16 at the SM Megamall Event Center at 4 p.m. 

On Oct. 17, chef Rudolf Ranada from the SKD Academy and Kitchen Academy will showcase his paella Manilena and gambas at SM City Fairview; while Ellen Guerrero, owner of Sunduan restaurant, demonstrates her Pinaputok na Pla Pla at SM City Bicutan.

The late Tita Mila Enriquez’ famous hamon Bulakenya and bringhe ng tagumpay; chef Faye Asuncion’s asadong palanakan manok and atcharang gule; and chef Joan Marquez’s pinikpikan na manok will be demonstrated at the SM Supermalls in Marilao, Pampanga, and Baguio, respectively.

Other homegrown recipes that will be showcased in the SM malls are Nicole Pimentel’s pansit chami and longganisang Lukban in Lucena; Casa Ilongga chef Emelyn Uytiepo’s butterscotch and pansit molo in Iloilo; chef Red and Margie Feria’s sinigang na isda and cape barako in Lipa; chef Doy’s Bicol express, pinangat, and pili tart in Naga; and TBC chef Gene Gonzales’s paksiw na buntot ng bariles and durian pie in Davao.
