MANILA, Philippines — Kiera Knightley dropped the immaculate rose image as she posed topless for a black and white shoot with renowned French fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier in the September issue of ‘Interview’ magazine.
In the shoot, the 29-year-old "Pirates of the Carribean" actress insisted on not retouching her photo in protest against the industry practice of using Photoshop.
Knightley said she is sick of her body being manipulated just to fit society's standards.
In 2004, controversy struck when Knightley's breasts were enhanced through the photo editing software for the "King Arthur" promotional posters.
"I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said, ‘OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.’ Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are, Kiera told the Times of London in an interview.
The photo shows Knightley wearing a black cigarette pants and dark gloves. Her wet, disheveled hair freely dropping on her face adds to her rough but alluring look.
This was not the only time the actress posed nude, having done so in previous films — "Edge Of Love", "Duchess", "Silk", "Atonement" and "Domino" among others. She said that while people always talk about her breasts, the conversations don't bother her. Moreover, in 2012, she told Allure magazine, "I don't mind exposing my t--s because they're so small. People really aren't that interested."
