MANILA, Philippines - Pinafore dresses, playsuits, bow shirts and denim jeans share the spotlight with soft, sheer fabrics for a wistful spring/summer 2013 with Miss Selfridge.
The ethereal feel is apparent in floaty maxi dresses, backless crisp white sundresses and dusky pink bell-sleeve baby-doll numbers, taking the season into an audacious vintage route.
Styles take inspiration from lingerie lines: slip dressing, camisoles, bias cuts and a return to ruffles with sultry black satins, adding a boudoir element to breezy daytime nude and peachy tones. Sofia Coppola’s Virgin Suicides is the inspiration behind the lace inserts, floral smocks and paisley prints.
The bohemian air is evident in the ruffled skirts, sheer maxis and peplum. Flower patterns become beautiful complements on Japanese-inspired kimono jackets, geometric prints, and contrasting embroidery. Dainty floral designs include daisies appliquéd onto candy-colored chiffon dresses and sheer panelled tops with peplum details that bloom prettily across the dreamy collection.
Denim shouldn’t be overlooked. This season, Miss Selfridge modifies this quintessential casual wear with lace panels, quirky prints and smart details. Denim is key — with tunics worn over embroidered smocks or updated with metalwork. Shorts are cut to sit high on the waist with embroidered lace hems. Skirts are fitted with pocket detail worn with tucked-in blouses and tan leather and wood sandals.
Spring/summer 2013 shies away from rich dark colors and basks in fresh, easy and breezy hues, using floaty fabrics, delicate hues, ultra-feminine shapes and high-street styles.
