Bottega Veneta’s new collection salutes the feminine form

A lightweight vest in its bejewelled glory, worn over a crisp voluminous shirt is glamour for the brave.

MANILA, Philippines - “It’s easy for a woman to dress in a way that sends a simple message: serious or sexy or bohemian or whatever,” says Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier. “It’s much harder to come across in a multifaceted way. For spring, we wanted to make clothes that blur the lines, that offer a more complex idea. These are clothes for women who’d rather not be summed up in a word or two.”

Bottega Veneta’s spring 2013 collection considers the ways clothes can be at once tough-minded and sweet-natured. Each piece in the collection starts off strong –– a padded shoulder, angular and precisely tailored silhouettes, architectural in construction –– and then tapers, or rather blooms, into a narrow waist, a sexy slit, fluid draping, and dusky shades of peach, yellow, blue, red, plaster and white, often with a solid black anchor.

There are unexpected mixes of materials and prints, mostly florals, in fabrics ranging from wool, cashmere, cotton, canvas, and nylon to softer silks. Lace, sequins, macramé, beading and embroidery developed in collaboration with French, Swiss, and Italian ateliers also contribute to each piece’s multi-dimensional quality. Paired with spring shoes, which are substantial, with a cutaway platform, square-toe and hefty heel, these tailored but feminine looks are spring-with-an-edge.

Bottega Veneta is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center and Rustan’s Makati.
