The story of Lancel starts with a French woman named Angele Lancel, founder of the first fine leatherwork company. Back in the 1900s, she was also responsible for opening a dozen boutiques in Paris which have been named “Au Sphinx,” “Au Phenix” and “Al’ Incenerrable” — all celebrating Lancel’s view of femininity — free, audacious, and playful.
