Angela Angeles is a talented young lady who wears many hats. Before finishing her architecture degree from the University of Santo Tomas in 2008, she had already won two awards in the 7th Philippine Jewelry Design competition for an onyx and gold cuff bracelet. Soon after, she attended the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London and took short courses in jewelry. The icing on the cake was when she was given a scholarship at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) with a Gemology Program in 2009.
Growing up in a creative household headed by her mother, Linda Rodriguez Angeles, it was natural for Angela to veer towards the artistic world. As a Poveda high school student she enjoyed beading and making fashion accessories. Most weekends would find her busy creating designs to be sold, but she would also have to work during her summer break in the roofing tile business of her father, Vicente Angeles.
Her current line features beautifully-set bijoux pieces with Swarovski crystals in a metal alloy setting that reminds one of the intricate designs worn by the elegant Hollywood stars of the 1940s. Looking like the real thing in precious gold and diamonds, they are very affordable and make a big fashion statement without breaking the bank nor having one worry about a thief snatching one’s jewelry.
The other style that Angela wants to promote features sterling silver in a more structural form. They stand out with linear designs that can be worn by women of all ages — very apropos for today’s fashion that has a ’70s vibe.
Inspiration comes from various themes she encounters in her daily life and travels including museum visits, theater design productions as well as the architectural designs she sees around her. When asked what motivates her, Angela happily states, “I make jewelry because I like creating art and sculpture. Jewelry is another form. I use various metals, crystals and stones — polished and unpolished which are naturally beautiful. My goal is to create more unique jewelry.”
