Rules of adornment

MANILA, Philippines - The holiday season here and with it come tide after tide of festive get-togethers. Unless you’re attending a Christmas ball, which is quite rare these days, your safest bet will be a cocktail dress. This season, there are three big trends for holiday cocktail dressing, namely Lace, Embellished, and Opulence. However, when it comes to these festive mini-dresses, it’s important to pay attention to your accessories.

As the perfect complement for these cocktail trends, Avon Fashions released three new jewelry collections inspired by three world-renowned jewelry designers. The first collection, Ungaro Parisienne Bloom Collection, was designed by no less than the house of Ungaro. The second, the Shaill Magic Collection, exhibits the richness of Indian designer Shaill Jhaveri’s heritage. The last collection, Through the Looking Glass, is designed by Marisa Politis, head of Avon Global Jewelry Design. Available at affordable prices, you can mix and match pieces from every collection to suit your preferred cocktail trend.

Ungaro Parisienne Bloom Collection

Taking a cue from Ungaro’s Paris heritage, the Ungaro Parisienne Bloom Jewelry Collection showcases voluptuous blossoms in all their vivacious, exotic splendor. This exclusive designer jewelry collection is cast in gold with illusion diamond pave, and set with fine-cut faceted glass stones in complementary shades of rose and red.

Thr2ough The Looking Glass Collection

Cast in antiqued silver-tone and set with enchanting pastel crystals, the Through The Looking Glass Jewelry Collection illuminates a starry vision of mythic luxury. Its bold, glistening emerald-cut stones, mounted above each star, catch the eye and draw attention to the owner.

Shaill Magic Collection

Mixing the exotic with the contemporary, the Shaill Magic Collection perfectly exemplifies Shaill Jhaveri’s design aesthetic, combining his rich Indian heritage with his exposure to the fashion capitals like New York. The twists of the jewelry provide an exotic feel while the colors of the stones are reminiscent of the City of Lights. The earrings, necklace and ring are all embellished with a main stone of montana pear glass and accented with montana and aquamarine round brilliant cut rhinestones in silvertone plating.

Heavily Embellished

Why restrict the sparkle to your ears, neck, wrists and décolleté when you can spread it generously all over your entire ensemble? To balance the appearance of hammered or broken sequins and patterned beadwork, go easy on the jewelry. As a general rule of thumb, let your neckline dictate your choices: A low neckline easily lends itself to a simple pendant necklace. If your décolleté is covered up, accessorize with a pair of tear-drop earrings.

Lovely Lace

You would be hard-pressed to find a trend more feminine than lace. When it comes to pairing a lace dress with jewelry, the trick is to pile and layer them, while still maintaining balance. If you’re going to wear a pair of teardrop earrings, skip the necklace and pile on the cocktail rings. If you prefer a statement necklace, try piling on the bracelets.

Rich Opulence

Nothing embodies the holiday trend more than a little Opulence. With the presence of all these metallic hues, it becomes safe to experiment with little pops of color using jewelry. Pink gems set in rose gold brings to life the dullness of metallic gold fabric, and even hints at a bit of femininity underneath all that luster. Just remember the rules of balance: it’s either the ears or the necklace — never both — paired with either cocktail rings or piles of bracelets.
