The easy way to do eye makeup

Dear Rissa,

I like experimenting with different colors for my eye shadow when I go out. But I always seem to mess up. Is there an easy way to do eye makeup?

Louise M.

Eyes are often the hardest feature to get right because they’re often the first place to show any signs of mistakes. Mistakes come not just in the form of streaky or clumpy mascara but also in chalky creased eye shadow or simply too much color.

If you fancy more color on your lids, avoid powdery eye shadows. Here’s your best bet for easy but dramatic eyes: cream or mousse eye shadows. Surprised? They’re so easy to use and dry to a water-resistant finish. All you have to do is simply smudge a small amount at your lashline and feather upwards using your finger.

Perfect for the Manila weather is Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream (stores located at Shangri-La Mall and Bonifacio High Street). This waterproof and long-lasting product delivers intense color. And for professional-looking peepers, the makeup does not run or settle into the creases of your eyelids. This spells flawless eye makeup that lasts all day. Check out the 22 shades of Aqua Cream by Make Up For Ever. Big beauty bonus: Aqua Cream can be used not just on the eyes, but also on the cheeks and lips!

A Gem of a Jewelry Collection

Dear Ms. Tingting

I am looking for fancy jewelry that’s unique and fashionable. I am sure you have great suggestions.

Grace

What a great wonder of God seashells are! Such inanimate beauties that that bring so much joy to beholders!

Old and young never fail to pick up a shell along the seashore for its color, uniqueness, size, and shape. Any beach can be a starting point for putting together a delicate collection like mine. Other women may find Hans Brumann’s to be the beginning of their seashell collection in gold and precious stones, now on exhibit at Rockwell Power Plant Mall, Makati Shangri-La Hotel, and Legaspi Park View Condominium.

I met Hans 30 years ago when he just arrived as a tourist in the country. Only 26 years old then, he wanted to see the world. “I was a bit tired of Switzerland where everything is clean, neat, and organized. I have been in various countries like Germany at the Trade School; in London with Andrew Grima, the jeweler appointed to the Queen; in Geneva; then in Zurich.” There, Hans met Maria, his wife, before leaving for the Philippines, and brought her over to these islands.

I followed Hans from La Estrella del Norte in 1967 to Ding Velayo Gold Crest in 1971, to his Mandaluyong residence in 1977, to Lor Calma, Esperanza in 1978, to Lor Calma building on Paseo de Roxas in 1979, and to HBI Legaspi office in 1983.

And I am still admiring his ideas and designs, remembering his many endeavors to express himself through jewelry.

On this page are some of his salable shells crafted into jewelry for daily wear to make any woman more beautiful and attractive.

Handmade Soaps Make Bubbly Gifts

Dear Lucy,

Where can I get good handmade soaps that I can give as gifts to someone living abroad who already has everything? I am leaving for a trip to the US and I will be meeting up with friends. I want to bring something that I know they do not have there.

Anjeray

Please check out www.ilogmaria.com. Their soaps are made from a centuries-old recipe that they have enhanced with honey, beeswax, and propolis from their own beehives. Honey is bacterial and speeds healing; at the same time, it deep cleans and softens the skin. Beeswax is moisturizing, but it does not clog pores. Propolis is a natural disinfectant that promotes healing of most skin disorders.

The soap they make is packed with lots of good stuff, and it comes in different variants. One of the best-sellers is their Feminine Wash soap. They also have Kalamansi & Ginger, Spearmint & Oatmeal, Honey & Cinnamon, Lavender, Milk & Honey, among many others. They even have a deodorizing soap for pets!
