MANILA, Philippines - Spanish fashion brands have come a long way. Whereas before the Spanish would shop at El Corte Inglés for all their needs, the ubiquitous department store is now being challenged by Spain’s high-street brands, which are among the most fashion-forward in the world today.
One of those Spanish labels available in the Philippines is Trucco, which recently unveiled its summer 2010 collection. At Trucco, this season is all about flattering cuts, versatility, movement, femininity and color. Within the collection are mini-collections that can be mixed and matched to achieve a multitude of looks.
Are you a film noir fan? One of the key colors, red, is available in sexy, fitted silhouettes a la ’40s femme fatale.
Seventies disco is channeled in the opulent Oro collection, with its gold and black sequined pieces. Or maybe the ’80s are more your speed: green apparel takes inspiration from this era with its puffed sleeves, pleats, and defined waists.
The oversized ’90s silhouette isn’t left out, with the primary piece a printed long shirt with draped neckline meant to be paired with skinny trousers and a fluid jacket. For hippie-chic types there are ethnic, earth-toned pieces inspired by African prints and paintings.
Another key trend this summer is shine, achieved through sequins, Lurex and satin, but executed in subtle colors with gauzy overlays that look like second skin.
And for those who favor a more casual summer look, what better hue and fabric than denim, cut into mini-dresses, jeans and even catsuits?
