Hot tips for a tan-talizing summer look

Glow, girl, glow: Lancome La Rose Premiere Blush gives tan summer skin a natural luminescence. Available at Rustan’s

Dear Rissa,

I just got back from the beach and I really love my tan color. Can you recommend a nice blush and lipstick that will complement my tan and give my face a nice glow?

Pivi

A good blush color can add instant radiance to a woman’s face. Try Lancome’s La Rose Premiere Blush (available at Rustan’s). The blush features a cocktail of three fresh shades — pumpkin, coral, and baby beige — and flatters mestizas and morenas alike. For your tan summer skin, this blush blends really well and will give your skin a natural luminescence. For a radiant effect, dust it where the light hits your face — the top of the cheeks, the forehead, tip of the chin and nose.

If you prefer pinks over peaches, you definitely have to try Alison Raffaele Inner Glow in the shade Charming (available at Beauty Bar). This was a great discovery during a photo shoot. This water gel-based blush really gives cheeks an incredible glow that comes from within. If you’re concerned about the summer heat and stickiness, fear not because this blush is lightweight and non-sticky. It blends so easily and lasts all day, allowing you to easily give your cheeks a summer glow even when on the go. You can’t go wrong with this handy stick blush. I think this will be a great staple in your kikay kit for the summer season.

Lastly, my summer pick for the lips is Lancome’s Fire Stick (available at Rustan’s). This is a really cool lipstick that can be used wet or dry. For a light and sheer color, use it dry. For potent color on your lips, simply wet the Fire Stick to activate the intense color and glide it over the lips. This tiny lipstick will make every lipstick seem big and bulky. This is a new power product to keep in your purse and will definitely take you from day to night.

Going green? Hair’s how

Dear Lucy,

I am going green in every way I can and am thus far happy with the choices available locally in as far as food and makeup are concerned. My only frustration now, if you can call it that, is my hair. I have yet to find a shampoo that delivers results just as it is green. I have unmanageable frizzy hair. Any ideas?

Nana

L’Oreal Professionnel has introduced the Serie Nature, a greener line of hair care products, which combine natural ingredients with salon-grade compounds. In this formulation, natural elements are substituted for synthetic ingredients whenever possible. Purete Naturelle is a gentle everyday shampoo with 99-percent natural ingredients and 10.4 organic ingredients. It is certified by ECOCERT, an independent organization for organic cosmetic products.

Also in the Serie Nature range is Doucer D’Huiles shampoo and masque. It is perfect for very coarse and highly rebellious hair as it employs the power of olive and rice bran oils, both of which are significantly rich in essential fatty acids and have a high affinity with the hair fiber. This formulation can deeply nourish the fiber and instantly smoothen the strands. In addition, it also shields the strands from humidity for added protection against frizz. Hair becomes healthy and tame. This range is very natural as it features a 100-percent natural fragrance; is completely free from parabens, silicones, and artificial colorants. The bottle is also made from 100-percent recycled plastic.

Reading Between The (Laugh) Lines

Dear Ms. Tingting,

I am male, already 50 years old, relaxed and stress-free, and living a Christian lifestyle (modest and comfortable). I am still single, neither smoke nor drink or have any other vices. Sometimes, I eat fatty foods. I have been avoiding the sun since I was 30, not for reasons of vanity but to avoid skin cancer and premature aging. The results are good, I still have a good amount of hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin on my face and body. For the past 50 years, I’ve been using just ordinary soap for my face. I don’t have any static wrinkles, fine lines, laugh lines, crow’s-feet, and nascent jowles on my face. My face is still supple, elastic, and is still mildly oily without blemishes. Even my tummy’s skin is still supple.

Now, my question is, at what age do you think will I get my first static wrinkles, laugh lines, crow’s- feet, etc? I won’t get devastated because the Bible says that we will all return to dust!  Remember, I just use soap and water for my skin.

Dorian

Any age may show signs of premature aging like wrinkles, fine lines, laugh lines or crow’s-feet. From your letter, it seems you really are taking good care of your skin and you have good complexion.

At your age, it’s expected that you’ll have some signs of aging, but lucky you for maintaining a younger-looking complexion. I advise you use vitamin C on your face — 10 percent of Obagi, Civit or IIskin for maintenance.
