This is one happy fashion carnival

MANILA, Philippines - Young fashion designer Happy Andrada takes a trip down memory lane as she reminisces about the glory days of the carnival in “Perya: A Whimsical Fashion Gala and Benefit Show” on March 6, 8 p.m., at the A-Venue Hall, Makati Ave., Makati City.

Perya, a distinct part of Philippine folk culture, is the Filipino slang for small carnivals set up during town fiestas all over the country. For many generations, trips to a perya with family and friends provided social interaction full of fun and frolic.

For her upcoming fashion show, Happy transforms perya into a fashion extravaganza. The show will showcase Happy’s 50-piece couture avant-garde collection that is theatrical but wearable. Meet the serena (mermaid), and babaeng gagamba (spider woman) who live on the catwalk. Highlight of the event is the Cosplay (costume playing) contest.

Happy collaborates with young and creative wizards such as artist Paolo Icasas, accessories designer Dennis Celestial, photographer Darrel Pobre, ventriloquist Ony Carcamo, the De La Salle University Pops Orchestra, and the genius behind Hat Momma, Maverick by Design, Schu, Electronica Manila, Happy Days, Illustrador ng Kabataan (INK), Lomo Manila, Musicality dance group, Pido, and BaiCapture.

Directed by Gerry Katigbak, and hosted by Issa Litton, Perya is for the benefit of Bethany Homes Orphanage, Hands On Manila, and Volunteers International for Development, Education and Services (VIDES).

A fashion design graduate of LaSalle College International, Happy creates clothes from street wear to bridal gowns with a touch of punk at her two shops: F*ART Fashion Art in QC, and One Beauty Center in San Juan. Happy has done over 40 fashion shows to date.

Perya’s media partners include 2nd Avenue, Animax, Bounce magazine, Circuit magazine, Clickthecity.com, Cosplay.ph, Fudge magazine, Herworld.com, JAM 88.3, Lifestyle Network, Mod magazine, Rogue magazine, Stella magazine, and Stylebible.ph.
