Hi, Rissa!
I’m an avid reader of Style SOS and I actually have clippings (as far back as 2005) of articles that I found interesting and informative . . . but it’s the first time that I’ll be writing to you. I just want to ask what would be your recommendation for a tinted moisturizer with SPF. Something that I can use in the morning before I head to the office. I want something that doesn’t leave a sticky feeling after application. I’m currently using Philosophy’s The Supernatural, but it’s “pore-fading” quality doesn’t seem to work for me, no matter how much I put on (or maybe I’m just not doing it right). And I don’t think this one has moisturizer . . . but what I love about it is that it doesn’t have a sticky after-feel. Hope you can help me out soon. . . . my supply’s about to get depleted soon. Candy
Foundation comes in many forms: liquid, cream, wet/dry, and tinted moisturizers. Tinted moisturizers are the sheerest of all. It’s a moisturizer and color in one. It’s perfect for women with active lifestyles or for those who don’t need a lot of coverage. But keep in mind it’s always ideal to set any liquid makeup with translucent powder. Apart from skin color, skin type and skin needs dictate your choice for a tinted moisturizer.
If you have oily skin, go for water-based or oil-free foundations. This will help evade the sticky feeling you dislike. Try Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (available at Rustan’s). It’s got an oil-free variant which is sheer, lightweight, and can be worn by all skin types, especially acne-prone, sensitive or oily skin. Product description explains that it helps to prevent excess oil from setting on the surface of the skin and it controls oil breakthrough while providing hydration to prevent dryness. Your skin will love that it offers further protection from UVB rays and the harmful effects of the environment with SPF 20.
An affordable option is Nivea’s Tinted Moisturizer (available in all leading drugstores and department stores). It’s available in two shades and contains UVA and UVB protectors. You might also like The Face Shop’s Phytogenic Liquid Foundation (stores are located at Glorietta 2, Bonifacio High Street, SM Mall of Asia, and SM North Edsa). I’ve recommended it many times to readers.. The Face Shop’s Phytogenic is a line of natural-looking makeup that allows the skin to breathe. With ingredients like persimmon leaf and green tea extracts, this refreshingly light base makeup line will make your skin feel comforted and moisturized. It also protects skin against harmful pollutants and UV rays. I’ve tried the Phytogenic Foundation SPF 10 and I appreciate the way this liquid foundation doesn’t feel too thick or heavy but at the same time gives good coverage without the need for concealer. Looking for Jo Malone
Dear Lucy,
I always read your column whenever it appears because you always have all these bits of useful information. I am wondering if you would know of anyone who sells Jo Malone perfume here. That is my current favorite and I would like to get my mother-in-law one also as a birthday gift. I do not know anyone who can buy it for me from the States.
My other question is: What is a good concealer? If possible, something that could double as a highlighter.
Katrina
There is a shop in Greenhills that carries Jo Malone scents. It is called Criselda’s and their telephone number is 721-6009. Call them and check in advance if they have the scent you need.
A good concealer that also doubles as a highlighter is Clarins Instant Light Perfecting Touch in No. 3. It is loaded with light reflectors. It is a great concealer. Clarins is available at Rustan’s.

Wanted: Good, Affordable Plastic Surgeon
Dear Tingting,
I am in my mid-50s and my problem is my sagging skin, which is affecting the shape of my face. I really don’t like the way it looks now. Could you recommend a doctor who can do plastic surgery on my face but will not charge so much? I am a middle-income earner and works as a supervisor in one of the hotels in Manila. An improved look will certainly add to my confidence in dealing with my clients. I am a resident of Quezon City so I prefer a hospital near this area.
Amor
You have a wide choice of plastic surgeons, but for one who is really reliable and knowledgeable, I would recommend Dr. Conrado De Gracia at Medical City in Ortigas with telephone number 635-6789; Dr. Jun Caparas of Belo Medical Group, cell phone number 09175315939; and Dr. Benny Herbosa of Makati Medical City.
You may call their clinic and ask how much they charge.
