It’s clear from Dennis Lustico’s Fashion Watch showing that the man knows what he’s doing. Lustico distilled many of the coming and already popular key trends of the season. Ruffles? Check. A few bows here and there? Check. Subtle pleating? Check. Sculpted silhouettes? Check, check.
For his showing at Shangri-La, the designer opted for a mostly black and yellow collection. Priming the collection as a pro-Ninoy showing, perhaps?
The canary frocks skewed older upon first viewing. The origami pleats on a blouson top over fitted tapered trousers with hems that were either ruched or too long for the model, along with a similarly themed ensemble, were passing fair while the long citrine gowns with bejeweled buckles appeared a tad matronly.
Perhaps the designer is aware that women of a certain age are often clients in need of dressier wardrobes. In that case, mission accomplished.
Lustico’s fine dressmaking skills were more apparent in the black, white and champagne-hued ensembles.
Standouts included strapless floor-length black gowns, one in particular with details along the bust and a short double skirt wrapped around the waist.
A tiered skirt gave a sleeveless champagne dress an elegant fullness while a cream calf-length frock with a floppy bow on one shoulder was charming.
Dennis Lustico is at his strongest when creating ensembles that are a mix of classic silhouettes and luxurious detailing. His long gowns are proof of that.
