They say “all good things come to those who wait.”
Finally, the most anticipated store opening has occurred at Greenbelt 5, Makati.
Marc by Marc Jacobs — the store — opened its doors after a long wait that began in January 2008.
Earlier this month, vice chairman and president of Marc Jacobs International Robert Duffy was in town to meet the partners and visit the site.
The 140-square-meter space is the work of architect Stephan Jaklitsch, who has designed Marc Jacobs stores all over the world.
Asked about the delay, Duffy smiled. “All of our stores open late. It’s a Marc Jacobs tradition.”
The good news is: no more going online and drooling, and bugging US-based friends and relatives to buy Marc Jacobs goodies to ship back home.
The bad news is: Marc Jacobs is addicting. Based on true experience, one can never have enough Marc Jacobs tote bags. (How on earth am I ever going to save money?)
Earlier last year, a Marc Jacobs accessories store opened in Greenbelt 4, offering mostly luxury handbags.
The new Greenbelt 5 store carries the less expensive designer line geared toward a younger market.
Marc by Marc Jacobs stocks current ready-to-wear pieces, as well as handbags, clutches, coin purses, accent jewelry, shoes, watches, sunglasses, fragrances and hair accessories.
To celebrate the opening, franchise owners Store Specialists Inc. hosted a cocktail and fashion show graced by Marc Jacobs International’s Emma Mace-Driskill, Victoria Garcia and Luc Moron.
A fashion show of Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring ‘08 collection featured cashmere sweaters layered with sheer panels at the waist, deconstructed evening dresses with nude lining, and suits with hip-high slits.
Completing the look were accessories such as two-tone patent leather loafers, Lego belt buckles, and patent bags.
A peek at the new store revealed current items seen online. I spied the patent-leather Stewardess totes, flight bags, coin purses and key ring; shiny Marc Jacobs bangles and hairbands; trompe l’oeil handbags and clutches, and more.
There was so much eye candy I forgot to check out the clothes. Anyway I’ve seen them on the runway.
So don’t walk — take the car — to Greenbelt 5 and see for yourself what is so worth the wait.
