Eighteen and too thin

Dear Lucy,

I have a problem with my weight. Actually, I’m underweight for my age. I turned 18 last November. They say I’m so thin, but I really eat a lot. What kind of doctor should I consult for my problem? I sometimes wonder how Chynna Ortaleza, who is kinda thin, easily gained some weight. I want to look sexier this summer.

Alexandra

Wow! What a wonderful dilemma you have! Go see a nutritionist although what you can really do is just eat and eat to your heart’s delight. What could also work for you is weightlifting. I have friends who used to be reed thin and they also did not gain weight no matter how much they ate. But now, they have filled up in a nice, healthy way no less because of weights. If you do take that option, try to get a personal trainer so you are guided properly. Meanwhile, choose the clothes you wear so that they fit you well and flatter your frame.

Sweat Success
Hi, Mary!

I’m 29 and working in an economy hotel in Cebu. As you know pretty well, people working in the hospitality industry must practice good hygiene. I’m concerned about excessive sweating even if most of the time, I stay in an air-conditioned room. I use an antiperspirant powder with alum, but I’m allergic to alum. I’ve tried a lot of antiperspirants, but to no avail. I get embarrassed over the patches of sweat on my shirt’s underarm area. It is so annoying. Do you know of a surgical procedure to remedy this?

Sweaty Guy Of Cebu

Yes, there is a surgical procedure to remedy your problem, and it’s called Botox Axilla. Dr. Filomena Montinola of the Makati Medical Center can do it for you.

Secrets To Healthy Long Hair
Dear Ms. Tingting,

I’ve always admired your long hair. Can you share with us your secrets to healthy hair aside from your incredible genes? How often should I have my hot oil?

Rhea

My hair ritual is very simple. I shampoo with Pantene and condition also with Pantene. While I’m drying my hair, it’s full of Pantene leave-on conditioner spread all over to prevent dry hair.

I have a hot oil every week using coconut oil. I leave it on for 40 minutes and shampoo out. Then I proceed with the above ritual.

I put Suave Regular or Citre Shine on my hair to keep it "together" and moisturized.

I brush my hair or have my yaya brush it endlessly.

Ponytail Tale
Hi, Tita Mary!

My Wednesday is not complete without reading your tips to your readers and I’m happy to say that some of them have been beneficial to me. Actually, it’s a fave topic of conversation among my co-female workers during meal breaks. Girls really love talking about being – and staying – beautiful. Now, I need a quick tip. I’d like to ask how I could keep my hair up and tidy without the use of gels, pomades, or hairsprays, as I get dandruff. I work as a nurse in a hospital in Manila and part of our grooming is well-kept hair (in ponytails). I have those tiny hairs that stick out when I ponytail my hair. I have tried using oil, but it runs down my face at the end of my shift, making my face oily. Any suggestions?

Rhea

Try the gel Dep – it does not cause dandruff. Then put clips on your hair, near the ponytail, to make hair stay nice and neat all day long.
