What to do with a double chin

Dear Mary,

What can I do to correct a double chin?

Dolly

Outside of plastic surgery, there’s really not much that you can do. If it isn’t too bad, yes, there’s a very simple exercise that can help. With the back of your hand, slap the under chin steadily for 50 counts, working it up to 100. Do this every morning and evening. This will strengthen the chin muscles and keep it from drooping.

‘My Eyebags Are Bugging Me’
Hi Lucy!

I’m a sophomore high school student and an avid admirer of yours. I have a facial health problem and I know you can help me. How can I get rid of eyebags the natural way? Can you recommend any product on the market that might help?

Eyebag Lady

Because eyebags are mainly genetic, you cannot get rid of them entirely. You can, however, minimize their appearance. Try the following:

• Refrigerate/freeze some sliced cucumbers and upon waking up, put them over the eye area for 15 minutes. It’s best if you do this while you’re semi-reclined.

• You can also use comfortably cold compress.

• Avoid sleeping flat on your back, without any pillow to elevate your head, especially if you are prone to water retention as you will surely end up with puffy eyes.

• Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep is a major culprit. LUCY
Eat Less, Move More

Dear Tingting,
I’m 24 years old, five feet tall and weigh a hefty 120 lbs. I’m gaining weight so fast; I put on 10 lbs. in just four months, from April to July, and have kept them since. My work involves sitting in front of my computer all day. I do not travel much since I live near my office. Recently, I’ve been working out. I have also tried limiting my food intake. But I don’t see any significant results. I really want to lose weight because I can’t get into my pants anymore. I feel sad/awful about myself. I want to gain back the confidence I had when I was 10 lbs. lighter.

Here are some tips from Sanirose Orbeta, consulting clinical and sports nutritionist:

• Maybe you are eating much more than you are burning calories in exercise. Eat less and move more.

• Engage in any aerobic type of activity for 45-60 minutes at least five to six times a week.

• Be very, very strict in removing fats from your choice of foods, like breaded chicken or food cooked tempura style.

• Decrease total calorie intake by being selective in food quality and quantity. Read food labels. Everything you eat has calories except water.

• Modify your cooking method – try grilling, boiling, steaming, etc.

• Make a daily food journal to monitor when you overeat and underexercise.

• Snack on liquids like water, diluted tea or decaffeinated coffee.

• Plan your meals ahead of time so they are balanced and varied.

Your sacrifice will pay off in terms of lost pounds. Good luck! Tingting
Keeping A Plump Upper Lip
Dea Mary,

My upper lip has tiny cracks along the borders. Is there anything I can do about this?

Melba

Dermatologists inject collagen to plump up the lines. But if you are averse to this, the following procedure will be of help: Use a lip pencil to outline your lips – this will prevent the lipstick from bleeding, but the lip color will run due to the heat and also when you eat. Repair the damage immediately by using the small powder puff from your compact. Retouch only the color outside the lip pencil, then reapply lipstick. At night, moisturize and rub the lines briskly.
