In general, the music of the three Russian composers in “Troikaâ€- Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Khachaturian had great urgency, rhythmic drive and force, electrifying momentum and a discordant, unmelodious quality in contrast to the exquisite lyricism of Rachmaninov, another Russian composer.
